When a car can be immobilised

Never while occupied or moving, 48 hours notice, two emergency releases a month, theft and danger.

GuyWay can stop a car from being driven, remotely, under clause 6.3 of the Driver Vehicle Rental Agreement. The clause sets narrow conditions, and the operations console enforces them in code: it refuses any request that breaks them and writes every request, allowed or refused, to an audit log under the name of the person who asked.

Where you find it

Clause 6.3 of the rental agreement. In GuyWay Driver, Home shows a notice banner when a 48-hour notice has been issued on your car, and a red banner when the car is immobilised.

Rules that apply

RuleDetail
Never while occupiedA car with someone inside is never immobilised
Never while movingA car in gear is never immobilised. Immobilisation only stops the car from being started again
Never when unreachableA car the console cannot see is never immobilised, because nobody can prove it is empty and parked
Non-return48 hours written notice first. The notice starts a clock. Only when the clock has run out can the car be immobilised for non-return
TheftIf the car is reported stolen, it can be immobilised at once, subject to the two rules above
Dangerous operationIf the car is being operated dangerously, it can be immobilised at once, subject to the two rules above
Emergency releaseYou can ask for a release of 24 hours, twice in any rental month, without waiting
Release after returnReturning the car ends the notice and the immobilisation
Who decidesAn immobilisation is an admin action on the console, with a written reason, never automatic
How it worksThe car's PIN to Drive is switched on. The car still opens with your key card; it will not drive. Nobody at GuyWay reads the PIN to you

What you should do

You receive a noticeReturn the car to the hub within 48 hours, or call +592 655-7775 to explain
You need the car during the noticeAsk for an emergency release. Two per month, 24 hours each
The car will not startCheck the banner in the app. Call ops. Do not attempt to bypass the PIN

Note tampering with the car's telematics is a breach that cannot be cured. It ends the agreements.
