Privacy at a glance
GuyWay Inc. operates a ride-hailing platform in Guyana. We collect information to provide rides, improve safety, prevent fraud, and support customers. We do not sell personal data. We store and process certain data using AWS, which may involve storage outside Guyana, while respecting local laws and applying appropriate safeguards.
1. Who we are
GuyWay Inc. ("GuyWay", "we", "us") is the data controller for personal data processed in connection with the GuyWay platform in Guyana. This notice applies to riders, drivers, and business users interacting with our app, website, and support channels.
2. Information we collect
We collect information you provide, information generated during use of the platform, and information from third parties.
- Account information: name, phone number, email address, and residential address.
- Payment information: payment method details, billing information, and transaction records processed by payment providers.
- Trip and location data: pickup and drop-off route progress, times, distance, and trip history, subject to device permissions.
- Usage and device data: device type, IP address, app version, login logs, and basic analytics.
- Driver-related information: license, insurance, vehicle, and other onboarding details.
- Other information: support messages, reports, and feedback submitted through the app.
3. How we use information
- Provide the service: create accounts, match rides, calculate fares, process payments, and send receipts.
- Safety and integrity: verify identities where appropriate, prevent fraud, investigate incidents, and enforce terms.
- Support and improve: respond to user questions and complaints, and improve service quality.
- Improve GuyWay: analyze performance, fix bugs, and develop features using minimized data where possible.
- Marketing (optional) and promotions where permitted; you can opt out at any time.
4. Legal basis for processing
We process personal data under one or more of the following bases (as applicable):
- Contract: to provide rides and related services you request.
- Consent: for certain optional features or direct marketing, which you can withdraw.
- Legal obligation: where we must comply with Guyanese law, tax or accounting rules, or lawful requests.
- Legitimate interests: public interest for safety, fraud prevention, network security, and service improvement, balanced with your rights.
5. How we share information
We share data only when necessary to operate the service, ensure safety, and comply with law.
- Riders and drivers: limited information needed for pickup and safety, such as first name, vehicle details, pickup location, and in-app contact tools.
- Service providers (processors): vetted vendors for hosting, maps, customer support tooling, fraud detection, and payment processing.
- Corporate affiliates.
- Legal and safety disclosures: where required by law or legal process, or to protect the rights and safety of users and the public.
6. International transfers and AWS
GuyWay uses AWS to store and process certain data. This may involve transfers or storing personal data outside Guyana. Where applicable, we use safeguards (including contractual protections and access controls) and only transfer data in line with Guyanese law and international best practices.
7. Driver onboarding and background checks
To promote safety and trust, GuyWay conducts driver onboarding and background checks. This may include verifying identity, reviewing driving history, and other screening steps consistent with local requirements and, where permitted, checks relevant to safety such as license status, suspensions, and serious criminal records. We use this information for assessing safety, fraud prevention, and compliance.
8. Data retention
We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes described, including legal, accounting, and dispute-resolution requirements. Retention periods vary by record type and purpose.
9. Security
We use appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect data (e.g., access controls, encryption in transit where applicable, and monitoring). No system is completely risk-free, but we continuously improve safeguards.
10. Data breaches
If we become aware of a personal data breach, we will assess it and take steps to mitigate harm. Where required, we will notify affected individuals and/or relevant authorities in accordance with applicable law.
11. Your rights in Guyana
You may have rights under Guyana's Data Protection Act (as applicable), including the right to request access, correction, deletion, restriction of processing in certain circumstances, and data portability.

Our website may use cookies and similar technologies to operate properly, remember preferences, and understand performance. You can control cookies using your browser settings.
13. Children
GuyWay is not intended for children to create accounts or use rides unless permitted by law or through authorized arrangements. If you believe a child has provided us personal data without appropriate authorization, contact Support@guyway.gy.
14. Changes to this notice
We may update this notice from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, provide additional notice in the app or on the website.
