Do this once, when you want to rent a GuyWay car and take rides through the platform.
Before you start. Guyana's own rules decide two of these, not GuyWay: you must be 21 or over, and you must have held a private car driver's licence for at least 2 years, because those are the conditions the Licence Revenue Office sets for a hire car licence. You also need a mobile number that receives WhatsApp, and time for one meeting in Georgetown and one induction at the hub, 2874 Greenfield, Providence. Every driver is an independent operator who rents the car and takes rides on their own account.
Steps
- Install GuyWay Driver from the App Store or Google Play and open it.
- Enter your mobile number and confirm the code the app sends you. Any number can sign in; you do not have to be on the roster.
- Tap Apply to drive. Give your name as it appears on your licence, tick the two conditions above, and say whether you hold a hire car licence or have applied for one.
- Tap Send it. The screen then shows the state of your application every time you open the app.
- The desk answers within one working day, on WhatsApp, and arranges the in-person meeting. Bring the documents listed in Documents you need.
- Attend the meeting. The team checks your licences and your police clearance and answers your questions about the two agreements.
- Wait for the insurer's approval. GuyWay cannot activate a driver the insurer has not approved, and the approval is filed as a document like any other.
- Attend the safety induction at the hub. It covers the car, safety and insurance. It is not a customer service course.
- Sign the Driver Vehicle Rental Agreement and the Driver Platform Agency Agreement.
- Open the app and tap Acknowledge on the Driver Data Notice. Your platform access is switched on after this step.
If you do not hold a hire car licence yet, apply anyway. It costs G$2,500, is valid for three years, and the Licence Revenue Office takes about two working days, so the desk would rather talk to you now than turn you away.
What happens next
The app stops asking you to apply and starts showing your documents, your car and your earnings, the moment GuyWay creates your driver record. You do not have to sign out and back in. Until every mandatory document is approved the Go online button stays off, and the Documents screen lists exactly what is still needed.
You can then book a slot, collect a car at the hub and go online. The team sends you a WhatsApp message when a slot is confirmed.
The induction and the brand kit (a GuyWay shirt and an ID card) are charged at the published price on your first statement.
If something goes wrong
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The code never arrives | Wrong number, or no signal | Check the number, move to a spot with signal, tap Resend code |
| The application was declined | The reason is on the application screen in the app | Fix what it names and apply again. The screen gives the date, which is 30 days after the decision |
| The meeting is not offered | Licence held for less than 2 years | Apply again when you meet the condition |
| Access stays off after the induction | A mandatory document is not yet approved, or the Driver Data Notice is not acknowledged | Open Documents in the app: it names every one that is missing. Otherwise ask on WhatsApp +592 655-7775 |
