See taxi in Guyana for fares and coverage.

Georgetown districts

Drop the pin at your gate or the building door.

Kingston

The northern tip of the city, with the seawall, the Marriott, the US Embassy and Cara Lodge. See taxi in Kingston.

Queenstown

Colonial wooden houses between Main Street and Vlissengen Road, with the British High Commission on Main Street. Parking is tight near the missions, so the driver waits at the gate. A ride to Kingston or Stabroek is under 15 minutes.

Campbellville

Bounded by Sheriff Street to the east and Vlissengen Road to the west. Sheriff Street northbound crawls from 16:30 to 18:30. An 08:00 run to Kingston takes 20 to 25 minutes, so a scheduled commute works well.

Kitty

East Georgetown, fronting the seawall, with Kitty Market on Alexander Street. Alexander Street jams on Saturday mornings, so set the pin on David Street or Sandy Babb Street. Kitty to CJIA is about 41 km and 50 to 55 minutes off-peak.

Bourda

Home to Bourda Market and St George’s Cathedral. The market is busiest Wednesday to Saturday mornings, so set the pickup a street back on Regent Street or North Road.

Alberttown and Lacytown

See Alberttown and Lacytown for pickup details.

Main Street

The tree-lined avenue with State House and Cara Lodge just off it. It has a central walkway, so say which side you are on. Main Street to CJIA is 41 km, about GYD 20,500.

Camp Street

The main north-south artery. Southbound traffic peaks from 07:00 to 09:00 and northbound from 16:30 to 18:30, and the nearby schools slow it at drop-off times.

Sheriff Street

The restaurant and nightlife strip, busiest Friday and Saturday from 19:00. Pin the restaurant you are leaving; if the frontage is blocked, Duncan Street or Garnett Street is the quicker meeting point. After 22:00 the trip PIN is on by default.

Prashad Nagar and Subryanville

Quiet residential districts with narrow streets. A precise pin on your gate gets the driver to the right door.

Bel Air Park

A residential district on the east side of the city. See taxi in Bel Air Park.

Popular destinations

Botanical Gardens and Guyana Zoo

On weekend mornings drivers drop at the Vlissengen Road gate. Entry to the Gardens is free; the zoo charges a separate fee.

Promenade Gardens

A walled downtown park on Middle Street. Drivers drop at the Middle Street gate.

St George’s Cathedral

The Anglican cathedral on Church Street, built of greenheart wood. Drivers stop at the Church Street frontage.

National Museum of Guyana

On North Road at Company Path. It is generally closed on Sundays and public holidays.

National Cultural Centre

On Homestretch Avenue beside D’Urban Park. After a show the exit traffic clogs for 20 to 30 minutes, so schedule the return and walk a block along Homestretch to meet the car. For larger groups see event transport.

Georgetown Public Hospital

For a medical emergency, call 913 for an ambulance (911 for police). GuyWay is a private ride service and cannot replace an ambulance. The default pickup is the main New Market Street entrance.

Stabroek Market and City Mall

From CJIA to Georgetown

CJIA is about 41 km from central Georgetown, 45 to 55 minutes off-peak, about GYD 20,500. The driver meets you just outside the terminal entrance. See CJIA to Georgetown for the full arrival guide.
