The East Bank Demerara is the main commercial corridor running south from Georgetown to Cheddi Jagan International Airport at Timehri, about 41 km along the East Bank Public Road through Houston, Providence, Grove, Diamond, and Soesdyke. It is one of the busiest roads in the country: the morning peak runs into Georgetown from about 6 to 9 AM, the evening peak runs out from 4:30 to 7 PM. GuyWay covers every segment on fixed fares, with the price shown in the app before you confirm: rides that end at CJIA are on the Airport Ride card, everything else on the City Ride card. Coming the other way, add your flight number to a CJIA pickup: the driver tracks the flight, meets you at the terminal entrance, and re-timing for a late flight costs nothing.
The Demerara Harbour Bridge at Peter's Hall is the choke point. It retracts for river traffic on a schedule published daily, and when it does the queue on the bridge approaches spills onto the East Bank road. Your driver knows the timings; the fare does not change with the delay.

Frequently asked
How does GuyWay handle Demerara Harbour Bridge closures?
Rides along the East Bank do not cross the bridge, but a retraction backs traffic up at Peter's Hall for 30–45 minutes at a time. The Demerara Harbour Bridge Corporation publishes the retraction times a day ahead; check them, or ask your driver, when you plan a tight airport run. The fare is fixed before you confirm and stays fixed whatever the traffic does.
East Bank Demerara to CJIA, how long?
From Houston, at the Georgetown end, allow 45–55 minutes for the roughly 40 km, or over an hour if you leave in the evening peak. From Providence or Diamond it is shorter, around 30–40 minutes off-peak. Rides ending at CJIA are priced on the Airport Ride rate card and the fixed fare shows in the app before you confirm.
Can I get a pickup far up the East Bank, past Diamond?
Yes. For pickups past Diamond (Grove, Soesdyke, Timehri), schedule the ride in the app an hour or more ahead rather than requesting it on the spot, especially early morning or late evening. You can edit or cancel the scheduled ride in the app, and message the driver in the app once one is assigned. The fare is fixed either way.
